It’s no secret that siding replacements in Seattle are one of the most expensive home renovation projects available on the market.

Yet, they’re incredibly necessary, and putting off a siding replacement can cause serious damage to your home.

At Pacific Exteriors LLC, we want to keep your home safe and savings intact. Near 20 years of experience replacing siding on homes in Washington means we know what we’re talking about when it comes to the insulative properties of siding—and why we put together this helpful resource on weatherization rebates in Washington State for siding replacements.

From county-specific resources to state-wide resources, Washington State has a variety of funds and grants to draw from for your siding replacement. Let’s dive right in.

What is Weatherization and How Does it Save You Money?

Weatherization is a set of guidelines aimed at improving the energy efficacy of a home. Because energy efficacy can be an expensive upgrade, Washington State offers a variety of grants and subsidies for your home’s modernization.

Not only do some grants and subsidies save money on the actual installation; it also aims to help homeowners save money in the long run with lower energy bills.

However, applications for weatherization rebates can be tedious to sift through. Finding which of the grants your project qualifies for can help reduce the overall cost.

Weatherization Rebate Programs in Washington State

Washington State has a massive variety of rebate programs available. Reading through each option—whether it applies to your county or not—can be a helpful starting place when it comes to terminology and application processes.

Snohomish County PUD’s Weatherization Rebates

Homeowners who live in Snohomish County may be eligible for the county’s weatherization rebates. There are three improvement categories: insulation, duct sealing, and windows with sliding glass doors.

The insulation rebate through Snohomish PUD is $1 per square foot of newly installed insulation. The qualifications for each type of insulation lies in its r-value, a measurement that evaluates the energy insulation of a material.

Below are the necessary r-values your insulation project needs to hit to qualify for the $1 per square foot rebate.

Required Range for Insulation Rebate

Before Remodel

After Remodel

Attic Insulation

R-value of .19 or less.

R-value of .49.

Floor Insulation

R-value of .11 or less.

R-value of .30.

Wall Insulation

LIHEAP Weatherization Rebates

LIHEAP, which stands for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, is a program offering financial and educational assistance to families with young children.

With a variety of programs—energy bill assistance, equipment repair and replacement, and disaster assistance—LIHEAP is a great choice to start if families are having a hard time covering necessary energy bills.

The application process with LIHEAP is simple and requires a bit more dedicated time. After filling out a short form, the website will direct you to connect with your local LIHEAP office.

Contacting them will help identify what rebates you qualify for. There’s an additional Benefits Finder tool that, with answering a form, can provide recommendations on other assistance you may qualify for.

Washington State Department of Commerce’s Weatherization Rebates

The website for the Washington State Department of Commerce is more complicated but applies across the whole state.

Similarly to the LIHEAP program, it requires you to contact the weatherization assistance agency in your county to learn more about what you qualify for. Pacific Exteriors is proud to serve Island, King, Kitsap, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, and Thurston County. For customers in these areas, here’s a quick overview of each county’s application process.

Most, if not all, of these rebate programs can take up to 6 months to a year to review your project for eligibility. This is another reason you should apply for them before your siding replacement becomes urgent.
